Pray for the World in 2012!

After receiving the 2012 VOM Prayer Calendar, I started working on a way to incorporate the prayer requests with our study of the world. The result is a compilation of pages that feature each country's flag, a link to a map, and a list of prayer suggestions from Voice of the Martyrs. I would love to have your feedback on this. Comfort

I've been thinking about comfort today. Several of my friends have recently experienced loss and are grieving. Thankfully, they don't grieve as those which have no hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13). They grieve, and they are comforted. I'm so glad our Father didn't tell us not to cry; He told us He would comfort us in our sorrow. He is our Comforter, our Consoler (John 14:26).

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

“But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. In Deuteronomy 6:4-9, God commands Israel to write His words on the doorposts of their homes, but the real point of these verses is that we should write God’s Word on our hearts. God wants us to love Him with all our heart, soul, and strength.
Writing Scripture on our doorposts is not the end goal, but it is one of the means God prescribes that will help us love Him and obey His Word more faithfully. Here are a few reasons for making Scripture prominent in our homes:

Because we will see it often.
Because it helps us memorize and remember God’s Word.
Because it will give us more opportunities to meditate on and talk about Scripture with our spouse and children in the context of daily life.
Writing God’s Word in our home is a witness to visitors. It’s an opportunity for outsiders to read God’s Word, and to see that it’s important to us.

Four MP3s were added to the website today! These were all recorded in 1999 when our oldest children were 5 and 4. We love hearing their little voices sing these songs! Their enthusiasm sometimes overshadowed their singing in tune, but I think you'll still be able to sing along with them. About two weeks ago, my son and I wrote a melody to help us meditate on Psalm 19:14. “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.” We do want our thoughts and our conversations to be pleasing to our Father, in spite of the inevitable irritations and disappointments in life. This verse reminds us that He is our Strength! He is able to help us with our words and our meditations!

“Psalm 40:1-3 is the song of hope that I pray we will hear from those who have lost so much this week.”
I read that sentence at http://mitzieaker.com/2011/04/kids4al-introduction very soon after the April tornadoes that caused so much damage across the southeast. Mitzi Eaker encouraged people who were sending boxes to children in Alabama to pray these verses for them. I asked the Lord to help me write a song for these verses, and the melody was added to our website last week.

This is the first of our melodies to have a part specifically written for the violin. My daughter Rebekah helped me with the arrangement, and it has been delightful to play it with her!

Our desire is to set "the word of Christ" to music in order to hide it in our hearts. We pray that the scripture songs, sheet music, audio files, and scripture memory coloring pages will help you to hide the word in your heart as well.
